LIVEJOURNAL, YOU USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND BE THE BEST THING EVER. And now... Now, you're only mildly interesting. What happened? Where did our love go? I thought I had given up and moved on, but I just can't. Was it me, LJ? Was it something I said, did, etc.?

No, no, no, don't even start about Twitter. Me and Twitter, yeah, we're likethat, but it's not the same. You and me, LJ, you and me, we had something.

I'M SO LONELY WITHOUT YOU TAKE ME BACK OMGS, etc.

...It's really sad when you long for the past in an internet-specific sort of way.

I do that. Also, much love to the Peter Gabriel.

If only we could time travel our internet lives back...

Oooh, I didn't know he had done a version 'til you said that. I shall have to listen when my internet doesn't suck so hard. The Magnetic Fields one is the track I'm familiar with; according to Wikipedia, Pete's version is the cover, but, well, it's Wikipedia. XD

Your subject heading has filled me with music nostalgia *snuggles up next to song*

Livejournal is a fickle mistress, to be sure. As for Twitter, I'm a little scared it of; it looks like one of those things I'll either abuse horribly or neglect completely XD oh internets.

Now I'm curious: Peter Gabriel or Magnetic Fields? 8D

Twitter has EATEN MY SOUL in the best way possible. I was afraid I'd neglect it, but it's so gosh darned easy to update, and even if you're gone for a week, 140 chars per post isn't too much to catch up on.

...well, that's what I used to say, before I ended up with a bunch of friends who tweet as much as I do (which is WAY TOO MUCH).

In unrelated news, I miss dA but I am also scared of the zillion unread comments I have accumulated...

So it isn't just me. And there I go, always assuming I'm the prob--wait, no, I never do that.

So it isn't just me.

Do other people know about this? Because I really like their logo and I am in a sort of mood for the first time in ever that I would actually set up a proper account there, probably.

LJ has been getting quieter and quieter. I wondered what was going on myself. I've been posting less fic, but a lot of people are doing that, too.

I'm resisting the Twitter thing. That is all.

Twitter ated my brain, but I suspect it's one of those love/hate things.

And. I thought it was just my apathy in regards to most of my hardcore fandoms, but it seems a lot of people are failing to feel the LJ love.

For a lot of us real life stuff kinda stole all the free time we used to use to play on the net and LJ. Plus, the LJ stoopidity of 2007 and beyond disenchanted many to look for other playgrounds.

That said, I miss the "old LJ" just as much. The days when we'd talk on and on about eraser guts, ramble over whatever topic that happened to pop up... speaking of popping up, Hikaru just came to mind. XD

You raise excellent points - and I fell prey to the former. I'm kind of glad I missed out on the whole strikethrough/boldthrough/chaotic mess.

I do miss that quite a lot, the comments parties... XD And oooh, you naughty girl. I should go draw him...

I think real life is the culprit, even for a non-LJer
Or perhaps it's just cyclical. *shrugs* I tend to think it's a bit of both. Yes, indeed. *nods* I've been slowly extricating myself from a lot of online stuff (not that there was that much left, after the last time I went through this), but even my Flickr account is feeling threatened now. Twitter gets its twinges of fear from time to time, but I think they're both safe. For now.

Re: I think real life is the culprit, even for a non-LJer
I think it's cyclical, combined with other things - the times themselves are a bit disheartening these days, people are working harder to keep jobs, a LOT of fandom folks are moving into different life phases....

That said, my interent is still very busy. Just *differently*

Also, it's spring break time, combined with Easter and Passover - lots of RL eents that take folks away from online life.

ALSO, fwiw? I've been in online fandom for 20 years now, and every once in a while, people start to say it's declining - and it always comes back up ;)

And one thing that can spruce it up? Start posting! (like you've done here :D)

Very good advice!

The responses to this surprised me quite a lot, as I thought it was just me and lack of a heavily populated fandom. LotRips/LotR was kind of the heyday for me, I think. It makes me sad I have only the faintest idea what half my flist is on about...

Your optimism is contagious, however. 8D And I was about to gasp at your 20 years, but I've got 14 under my belt - and I lived out in the middle of nowhere, where we had to walk uphill both ways to get internet.
